Some say that cummins repaired them under warranty anytime before 500,000 miles(mine has 390,000), others say that cummins told em to go fly a kite. I have spent some time on the internet researching this situation and have seen several cases where the cause of this problem turns out to be dropped cylinder liners caused by to little liner protrusion when the engine was built. They have now told me i need a head gasket for the sum of 5900.00, and they warned me that there will probably be other hard parts that need replacing(cyl liners, bearings, etc). They pulled the egr cooler and pressure tested it and it passed, so they reinstalled the cooler. I took the truck to the local cummins dealer and had them check it out, and they came back with a failed "exhaust in coolant" test, and claimed it would either be the egr cooler, or engine internals. The truck does fine one day with no coolant loss, and then the next it will push coolant out twice in one day. ![]() Many times a slow leak will show as a white stain left by the evaporating coolant. The dealer where I bought it has replaced the coolant overflow bottle, and the complete turbo, and they have supposedly checked the egr cooler, and air compressor, and the head gasket, but they say they are all good. In order to find the leak, you will need a can of break clean, a mirror, and a good light. In some rare cases the leak can be contributed to a cracked head. ![]() It is a 2010 KME with the Cummins ISX and I am trying to find a bulletin or campaign about this issue. They then replaced the turbo, turbo actuator, and coolant overflow tank and both radiator caps, to no avail. If the air compressor is leaking coolant externally, its probably either a head gasket or a fitting. 0 I am the husband of the Comptroller of a Fire District in Arizona, my wife tells me about one of their fire trucks that is using two gallons of coolant a week. Peterbilt tested the headgasket(so they say), the egr cooler, and the air compressor, all checked o.k.(according to them). The truck runs fine, never overheats, no other issues, except it pushes coolant out of the overflow bottle on hard pulls. ![]() So i just bought this 2010KW with an ISX550 engine, and the peterbilt dealer where i bought it has been chasing a coolant loss problem for three weeks.
